Or maybe the condo board will just say "Enough!" But they're hard to look at, and the pile just keeps growing.Harryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13432284983902312892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813961378439702061.post-61696040380672117972010-11-04T15:33:54.006-07:002010-11-04T15:33:54.006-07:00Thanks for all that great information Harry. I hop...Thanks for all that great information Harry. I hope I didn't sound too gloomy, but it is a tough to articulate, you know?

You keep up the good fight too!! Always great to hear from you.
SaraSara Bayleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13874563094064523797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7813961378439702061.post-67560919489717975752010-11-04T13:20:21.463-07:002010-11-04T13:20:21.463-07:00I just did some research hoping to cast a little l...I just did some research hoping to cast a little less gloom on the idea that the trash you pick up might just blow out again.

I learned that Santa Monica sends all its trash to Puente Hills. And was hoping that Puente Hills had a state-of-the-art incinerator like we have in Southern Maine. Many of our towns use ecoMaine (www.ecomaine.org), which incinerates waste, turns it into millions of $ of electricity, scrubs the waste gas & monitors all emissions, and leaves almost no ash behind. When ecomaine's done with our plastic, the plastic is actually, truly gone.

Sadly, it looks like Puente Hills doesn't do that. :( And it also looks like it runs out of room in 3 more years and another landfill opens up in the desert.

I guess if there's a silver lining, it's that what we're doing works. So well that it passes ISO 14001 environmental creds. So maybe LA County will be doing trash-to-ash someday too. Not an ultimate solution, but a good step.

Keep up the good fight. It's worth it.Harryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13432284983902312892noreply@blogger.com
